AIDS Society of Asia
and the Pacific
The AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific (ASAP) is one of Asia and the Pacific's leading civil society organisations. Its diverse membership includes peak HIV/AIDS bodies, national AIDS organisations, research institutions and regional NGOs throughout the region. These linkages provide ASAP with a unique opportunity to fulfil its Vision, Mission and Objectives through partnership and dialogue.

The HIV and AIDS epidemic is still very much a factor for everyone throughout the region. Some successes have occurred. Thailand throughout the 1990s was at the forefront of successful HIV prevention campaigns that helped contain the spread of the virus. More recently, we have seen huge successes in Cambodia. These are reassuring signs. However, China and India, along with marginalised communities in most countries, men who have sex with men, sex workers, people who use drugs, migrant populations, youth and women, to name a few, remain vulnerable.

ASAP is committed to continuing and strengthening its work, in and around the International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) by offering our members greater opportunities for dialogue with other partners and organisations, with governments and with civil society organisations. We are committed to the adherence of international and local law in order to achieve the best solutions for people. We are committed to exploring regional solutions to local problems by representing communities alongside of governments and with the support of the United Nations framework.

I trust you will join us in our ongoing work whether as a member of ASAP or as one of our many partners. I look forward to working with you fruitfully in the future.
