Prof. Myung-Hwan Cho, President, AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific (ASAP), custodian of biennial International
Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP), and the largest regional network representing civil society sector in
HIV-AIDS, and Mr. Perdro Cahn, President of International AIDS Society (IAS) the world¡¯s largest network of individual HIV
and AIDS professionals and custodian of the international HIV/AIDS conference, recently signed a memorandum of
understanding (MoU) that would not only pave the way further for multi-sectoral cooperation and mutual reinforcement, it
would also greatly contribute to maintaining a constant vigil against HIV-AIDS on all fronts.

The ASAP and IAS share the common view of the need to prevent, control, treat and reduce the impact of HIV and AIDS;
recognise the importance of building global and regional networks in order to strengthen and sustain the response to
HIV and AIDS; and recognise that the past and planned activities of the two societies augur well to contribute immensely
to the HIV-AIDS response through collaborative efforts.

The MoU between the two societies emphasises support for each other in further enlarging the membership base of
each organisation; use IAS conferences ICAAP to disseminate information in order to provide avenues to participants to
attend conferences of the two societies, consult each other regularly on resource mobilisation.

This MoU is the basic framework document to determine the direction, extent and nature of cooperation between ASAP
and International AIDS Society. This may also encourage collaboration among ASAP, IAS and other regional societies.
